What is DACA?

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is a United States immigration policy that allows certain undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as children to receive a renewable two years of ‘deferred’ action to avoid deportation and qualify for a work permit.

The program was created by the Obama administration in 2012, and it has been in effect for over 10 years. DACA recipients are often called “Dreamers.”

To qualify for DACA, applicants must meet certain requirements, including:

1. They must have come to the United States before their 16th birthday.
2. They must be under the age of 31 as of June 15, 2012.
3. They must have been physically present in the United States continuously since June 15, 2012.
